Amazon typically holds annual sales events for people who subscribe to its Amazon Prime membership, and there's one that is coming up shortly that will feature thousands of great deals. At first, Amazon held a single Prime Day event that usually took place in the summer months. Now, there's also a second sales event that gives buyers a preview of sales that will come during Black Friday and Cyber Monday events. While we don't know a lot of details about Amazon's planned sale, there are some things you need to know before shopping. We've rounded up all the details here, and you can stop by as the event gets closer for more information and early-access deals.

What we know about Amazon's upcoming sales event

Last year, Amazon held a second sales event in October called the Amazon Prime Early Access Sale. As the name would suggest, the idea behind Amazon's event was to give Prime members "early access" to deals that would later show up in Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. While Amazon isn't holding another Prime Early Access Sale, it did confirm last month that it would hold a new event called Prime Big Deal Days. We expect Amazon to reveal more information about this event soon, and it should be similar to last year's Prime Early Access Sale, where thousands of products across various categories saw massive discounts.

When and where will Prime Big Deal Days be held?

Amazon announced that Prime Big Deal Days will span from October 10 through October 11. The event will be available to customers in 19 different countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the U.S., and the UK.

Do you need to be a Prime member to save on Prime Big Deal Days?

The discounts found on Amazon during the company's sales events are exclusive to Prime members, including Prime Big Deal Days. Amazon Prime memberships cost an annual fee of $139 or a monthly fee of $15. However, if you're new to Prime, you can score a 30-day free trial without paying a cent. So, if you're looking to participate in Prime Big Deal Days without subscribing to Amazon Prime, you should wait to start a free trial until the event gets closer.

Prime Big Deal Days vs. Prime Day: What’s the difference?

Amazon Prime Day is the company's flagship sales event which lasts 48 hours and is typically held in July. By comparison, Prime Big Deal Days is a secondary event that serves as a preview for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We probably won't see as many deals during Prime Big Deal Days as we did during Amazon Prime Day 2023. However, there are still massive discounts for the products that do go on sale, so you won't want to miss it. Amazon products, electronics, and appliances typically see some of the biggest discounts during both Prime Big Deal Days and Amazon Prime Day.

Is an October sales event new for Amazon?

While Amazon previously hosted Prime Day once per year, it added a second Prime Day-style event last year for the first time. The new special, called the Amazon Prime Early Access Sale, was held on October 11 and October 12, 2022. However, Amazon doesn't consider this sale to be a second Prime Day. Instead, the company says that the Prime Early Access Sale gives its members "early access" to holiday deals and discounts slated for Black Friday. Now that Amazon has confirmed it will hold a Prime Big Deal Days event this year, it'll be the second time it has had a second sales event, and it is the third time it has held an event in October.

Will there be a second Prime Day in 2023?

Amazon already held its Prime Day 2023 event from July 12 to July 13, 2023. Officially, Amazon will not be holding a second Prime Day event in 2023. However, it's clear that Amazon's upcoming Prime Big Deal Days sale will be similar to a typical Prime Day. As such, if you're looking for a second Prime Day event this year, you should keep an eye out for Prime Big Deal Days.

Will other retailers be participating in Prime Day 2023?

Prime Big Deal Days is an event exclusive to Amazon, so no other retailers are participating. However, when Amazon has a big sales event, other retailers typically come out with deals of their own to try and keep up. Keep an eye out at Best Buy, Walmart, or Target for competing sales during and near the Prime Big Deal Days event. It's possible that one or more of those retailers announces a competing sales event as well in the coming weeks. Regardless, we know for sure that all of these retailers will offer great discounts for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
